Why are American's so oblivious to Canada?

How come if you ask a person from the states who the pime minister of Canada is, they say "what's a prime minister"? or they have no idea what Ontario is, or don't know who the Queen of England is?? But if you ask a Canadian anything about the states, theyll know it in a heartbeat. Why are Americans so ignorant of they're close neighbours?
