How painful it could be...?

Me and my spouse are living together since 4 month ago. My husband is from Syria, and we have only a simple wedding ceremony here in Italy. His family is serious to celebrate another ceremony for us in their hometown. It seems good at first but they have some strange traditions insist on! After 4 months I finally accept to go there…and I want to respect their traditions! One part of their traditions is to prove my virginity, naturally I’m going to fail and they will ignore it! Another part that relate to my question is putting a golden needle into my right until the end of the ceremony and then it’s going to be pulled out by my husband. It’s a tradition and all girls in that town of Syria are doing it. I actually accept it because of my husband situation there, so don’t tell me just ignore it! Please tell me is it harmful for me or not and is it awfully painful? I think it might be sth like needle biopsy of the without any anesthesia…
