What do you think about this SAT score?

My son took the SAT for the first time in and when we combined all the scores he got, he ended up with a 1257. i am not very familiar to the SAT since i am French and never took the SAT. He didn't take the PSAT because we went back to France for his 11th grade and returned right after he successfully finished the school year but he spent most of his summer and time studying at the the college board site, taking practice test. Please let me know whether it's good or bad. I've also heard that the ACT is much easier, is that true?
